Jazzsessie o.l.v. Afke Flaviana
Paradox, Tilburg
Afke Flaviana is searching for her place in the world of Jazz as a vocalist and a storyteller. This exploration has brought her (until now) to the Spoken Word compositions that she will be performing in Paradox on this evening. Joined on stage by our favorite Ugly Sisters, these amazing musicians encourage the listener and each other to simply enjoy being together in sound. Searching for the perfect balance between music and words, knowing that this perfection is unattainable, the ensemble faces a simple truth: to emote in music is to be free.

Vocal Improvisation Workshop
Klassiek op de Campus, TU Eindhoven
The notion that singing is something to be “good at” is a completely ridiculous one. Singing is the most natural and human way to make sound. Technical skills and knowledge of music theory are merely the vocabulary we have. How to tell a story with that vocabulary is decided in the moment. This is when music is made, and this is what this workshop focuses on: to find freedom, fun, and connection in the music. Listening and responding to each other in a welcoming environment, by letting go of shame and finding the joy in singing together.
This workshop introduces the concept of free improvisation to non-musicians without form or instruments. By focusing not on singing the most pretty notes, but on expressing freely through sound, participants will start to experience a glimpse of the magic that jazz musicians enjoy when they improvise together.
